My memories call to me and bring me back to times tinted in sepia tones. They delight my mind’s eye as still photos in an album or a silent movie showing flickering scenes from my life, and the feeling is so bittersweet. I am sitting in a cozy spot and the story unfolds before me, within me. My focus is sharp on the moments captured, but the edges blur the further they stray from my long ago remembered touch.  How clear I am able to see my childhood intent, or the fiction I created with my imagination. There is life still in those times.

What strikes me most are the emotions and wishes of the moment, and the purity of the time but the details change with the retelling. I love to rewind the projector of my favorite scenes to examine them again, and see what perhaps I’d missed. I find I’ve always missed a lot. Was everything simpler “back then” or did we simply lack the ability to see the entire picture? Perhaps the entire picture was not important as the leap into the moment, and the ability to truly and intensely live it. My memories show me what was important then, and that truth is a charm that keeps drawing me back to the past.

Our memories are priceless and forever sweet. Perhaps they really are the magic charm that keeps us kind and loving to others and ourselves throughout the years. They capture the essence of goodness and present it upon demand, when the need arises. Like when a treasured photo of a toddler will help you see that same person within the face of a petulant teenager, or an upset loved one. Memories, please restore me!

This little weed flower is as simple as a childhood’s game, and this is the charm that led me down memory lane today. Thank you weed!

Please come back tomorrow for a new “Weed Image of the Day” and let me know which ones you like.

We and our weeds are so much more than what we first appear to be.
