What is it about some days? The days that just seem filled with conflict, deadlines and icky things you’d really rather not deal with. I mean come on, life is easier when everything flows smoothly.
So for me, today was one of those days. I got ambushed by issues that begged for my attention, but frankly I just wanted to have peace. The begging continued, and got more urgent. Not my problem, I thought.
Then realization hit: Someone needed me. Admission: I am not good at all, at filtering things out, and I thrive on being needed. So…I dove into the fray and began slinging my versions of wisdom, insight and kindness at the problem via text. Note: texting is not the best way to handle delicate problems requiring deep communication and understanding, but…this was not my problem, remember?
With each text sent and received, I realized something. The layers of this problem were becoming exposed, and I was expanding my capacity to envelop them. What became revealed of the problem was layer upon layer, upon layer. I began to see it as bigger and more complex, and more in-depth that I’d thought I could handle.
But I did handle it. And I did help. And slowly, eventually, not all because of me, the problem began to get smaller and smaller, and then finally, it got resolved.
Lesson: The difficult bits of life that mess up your day are the switches that activate the code for the expansion pack you need. Did you get a curveball today? Expand your capacity. You’ll do fine.
