In Pursuit
In Pursuit Of Magic

My feet are planted, ready to explode, my heart is racing, my eyes are trained on the goal ahead. I hear the birds call out with joy as they swoop and dip in the air over this hill. On my mark, get set, GO! I take in a gulp of frosty air and explode up from my crouching position. Up and over the frozen weeds I fly, racing to the top of the hill towards the magic thats lays on the other side. It is just an ordinary morning but I have imagined a great undiscovered destination on the other side of the crest, and I want to be the first to see it!

Bunnies who’d been hiding among the tumbleweeds hear me approach, sounding like a predator, and off they dash, slipping through the holes in the fence, eager to get away. Small sparrows leave behind the spilled seeds on the ground and they scatter into the air, away from my pursuit. My breath clouds in front of me and adds mystery to the scene. I could be in ancient times and once I crest the hill perhaps I’ll happen upon the camp of a traveling Nordic prince, a band of soldiers from the south, or maybe a troupe of dancers headed to the next village!

Magic?

Giddy with laughter and out of breath, I reach the top and look around me. I am in the same time, of course. And the houses that have always been there, still are, and the fences and the farm equipment as well. No matter that they are familiar, the morning frost has transformed what surrounds me into a magical land, a treasure just for my eyes.  Everything has been coated with the delicate geometric shapes of ice and has thus been made new. I gave myself a delicious thrill today by entertaining the notion that something magic might be discovered, and it was FUN!!! What a wonderful place the imagination is to travel in. I think I’ll come back another day!

We and our weeds are so much more than what we first appear to be. Please come back again for a new “Weed Image of the Day” and let me know which ones you like. Even better, look down at the world that teems with life and meaning. It is right at your feet!
