Come Home To Roost

The Family

The Family

I have my spot near you all and I will never give it up. I will fight against rain and wind and the harsh drying sun that threatens to evaporate my spirit, but I will never leave you. You are my family. Together we have gathered on this sunny spot, mindful of each other, perched individually on our own precipice, striving, reaching for the future but staying firmly rooted. We are made up of individuals, and as such we have staked out our favorite spots, we have jockeyed for position, and have created our group, being both separate and together, locked in rock.

Know this: I will be rock steady for you.  You can lean on me. I will be on the lookout for danger on your behalf. I will be brave. I will love you like there is no tomorrow, solid as granite, as immense as the earth, as free as the wind and as forgiving as a branch that bends backwards yet never breaks. I will be dependable. I will never drift away and disappear. I will never uproot myself and desert you. I will be with you and a part of you forever. I will be here.

Family of desert weeds, you have illuminated the truth with forces stronger than nature so that I can clearly see my own commitment to family. Thank you dear weeds!

My wish for all weed lovers: that your day be clearer because you have seen a truth today.

Please come back tomorrow for a new “Weed Image of the Day” and let me know which ones you like.

We and our weeds are so much more than what we first appear to be.
