The One

I am happy to be me, happy to be the one who stands out, who sticks up and who is contrary. I stand tall, loyal and stubborn, happy to be with a group of friends or family, but most happy to be myself because I can be different.

The straighter I stand the more respect I receive, and the more welcomed I am. The others are like their brothers and sisters on the outside, but on the inside every single one of them feels different, set apart, mismatched. When they see me, and the strength that comes from my own integrity, they breathe a little integrity in themselves. They get a little stronger, a little straighter, and a little more hopeful.

So when I am hugged by the green weeds that close in and surround me to cradle and support me, I feel love and appreciation. I feel happy to be me, happy to have made the only choice for me, the right choice to be true to myself.
