Make it Count
Make it Count

Stand up and be counted. Stand for something. Take a stand. Be strong. Be aware. Words we hear often, but often as not we tend to discount their importance.

I might be only one out of a crowd of many, but without me and without the others that stand with me, there is no crowd. So there is less to notice, less to catch one’s attention, less to grab onto when seeking truth, inspiration, or solidarity. There are fewer voices if I do not stand. There is less unity, less strength, less support.

But I am here and I am not alone.

So why sometimes, do I lose my way?

Perhaps I have gotten myself trapped on a path that takes me in circles, fogging up my vision with repeated patterns through which I can find no way out. Can I not see the others right beside me? Perhaps I have fallen dull due to a lack of trying.  Perhaps I am afraid.

Why afraid?  Is that the best direction I can choose? Makes no sense, honestly.

So there. I shall be afraid no longer. If a simple stand of wild things can stand up to snow, rain, freezing winds, and the threat of being trampled by beasts or mowed down, then I can stand up too. I can discard the seeds of fear and doubt and sow instead, hope.

I shall hope. As I stand with my brothers and sister on this land, I shall face the future and the journey that is already taking me there. I have been given the gift of a life filled with possibilities! So with each day’s dawning, I choose to open up that gift and stand tall, at the ready with anticipation. How about you?

We can do it together, all brothers and sisters on this earth. We can stand with hope.

We and our weeds are so much more than what we first appear to be. Please come back again for a new “Weed Image of the Day” and let me know which ones you like.

Even better, look down at the world that teems with life and meaning. It is right at your feet!
