Why do these life events catch me by surprise? I have my eyes open. And, one might say, my eyes are very wide open. But yet I still get blindsided and surprised. An outsider might have seen it coming, so why can’t I?
When we are young, the world and time stretches on endlessly into grand canyons and mile high mountains, oceans that make the sun disappear and brilliant vast expanses of snow that swallow everything. Maybe we grow up conditioned to seeing life that way, an endless vista that will present us with the same dependable view no matter how long we live, no matter how we grow, no matter how we evolve as we live our life.
So when that view suddenly changes because of a bump in the road that threatens to derail us, or a perceived bridge that becomes so much shorter that we fear we may fall in the drink, well…it knocks our socks off and takes our breath away.
We are surprised, with our eyes wide open, but blind to the passage of time.
So, here is to the adventure of life, and the lessons learned each and every day! I know for me, sometimes the lessons sink in at night with my dreams. Here’s hoping your view of life leaves you pleasantly surprised and still able to keep your eye on the horizon.
Please come back tomorrow for a new “Weed Image of the Day” and let me know which ones you like.
We and our weeds are so much more than what we first appear to be.
