My Wish

When I was a child I wished on anything. Every dandelion I could grab, every butterfly I could catch, every wishbone at the holidays, every fortune cookie, every eyelash that drifted down my cheek became a possible wish granter. I wished while holding my breath, while driving through tunnels and while playing with little toys in my pocket. I wished when stepping over cracks. I wished with pennies tossed in fountains; I even wished when I made the sign of the cross. Celestial sightings didn’t happen very often, but oh when I saw a falling star, boy did I wish, and wish hard!!! I held in my breath, concentrated, and blew out my request with a strong burst of optimism so my future desire could come true!

This ordinary weed, characterized by plain green slender leaflets growing in a pleasant fashion, nothing too showy, has managed a piece of magic. He has caught on the tip of his leaf, a wish. He has caught my smile and my imagination. He has caught a small reminder of hope. No matter the size, any reminder of hope becomes huge once you recognize it. Wishes grow larger the more you believe. Thank you weed! Will you grant my wish today?

Please come back tomorrow for a new “Weed Image of the Day” and let me know which ones you like.

We and our weeds are so much more than what we first appear to be.
